Vice President, Development
“Real estate development was a natural fit for me, as it blends all the components of my education.” Kent Johnson earned a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Texas, and an MBA in Real Estate and Finance from Southern Methodist University, and then began his career as a commercial architect with Shepherd+Boyd. He began his tenure as a Development Officer with Albritton Development of Atlanta, Georgia, and afterwards served as Vice President of Development for Corporate Office Properties Trust (REIT).
Kent Johnson joined The Beach Company as a Vice President of Development in 2001, and manages commercial, multi-family, mixed-use and residential projects from initial feasibility analysis through sales or lease-up. His favorite development project to date was Longborough, which combined single-family residences with workforce housing, and won the Housing Development Award by the S.C. Housing Finance and Development Authority for outstanding achievement in affordable housing development.
GARCO Park is another exciting opportunity for Kent Johnson. “Who is going to buy a 100 acre asbestos and rubber manufacturing plant in North Charleston out of Federal Bankruptcy Court to clean it up and restore it as the economic driver for the Park Circle neighborhood? The Beach Company takes unusual and difficult opportunities and executes them in an excellent manner. Every project we take on must have a positive impact, because we live here.”
