charleston BAR approved jasper plans

Charleston BAR approved this plan submitted by
The Beach Company with a unanimous vote.

Charleston BAR Approves

On February 8, the Charleston Board of Architectural Review (BAR) unanimously approved The Beach Company’s preliminary review application for the Sergeant Jasper property.

During the meeting, the BAR reviewed the project’s design details, materials, and finishes. The Preliminary Review phase defines the level of quality of construction and the relationship of the buildings’ components to surrounding buildings and to one another.

The plans were well-received by City Planning Staff and the Board of Architectural Review. BAR member Jay White said, “I would vouch for the fact that if this is executed to the degree that has been discussed, that the city will be very proud of these materials. This appears to be an exceptionally stout structure.”

“We are looking forward to advancing the plan to the third and final phase of the BAR review process,” said John Darby, CEO of The Beach Company. “There is no other location on the peninsula – or possibly the Eastern Seaboard – like the Sergeant Jasper site. The City of Charleston is the number-one city in the world, the surrounding neighborhood is one of the most desirable on the peninsula, and the city’s Board of Architectural Review has high expectations for the use of quality materials on this special waterfront project. The Jasper’s combination of location, views, and amenities will set a new standard for luxury living in Charleston.”

About the Plan

The Jasper will be a majestic twelve-story, mixed-use building positioned on over four acres at the entry to Charleston’s historic district within walking distance of all that Charleston has to offer. It will feature unmatched waterfront and peninsula views. The rooftop amenities will offer striking 360-degree vistas of the peninsula, including Colonial Lake, downtown Charleston, the Ashley River and the Ravenel Bridge. Setting the standard for premier mixed-use buildings in Charleston, The Jasper will include multi-family, office and retail spaces with an enclosed parking garage to accommodate all building functions.
