Beach Company CEO John Darby accepts AFP Outstanding Philanthropist Award on behalf

Darby family representatives accepting the 2014 Outstanding Philanthropist Award at AFP National Philanthropy Luncheon: John Darby, Arthur Darby, Scott Parker, Anne Darby Parker, Christopher Parker, Charles P. (Buddy) Darby, III, The Reverend Monsignor James Carter, and Georgia Darby.

The Lowcountry Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) presented the Darby family of Mt. Pleasant, SC, the 2014 award for Outstanding Philanthropist at their 18th annual National Philanthropy Day celebration. Beach Company CEO John Darby accepted the award on behalf of the Darby family.

The Darby family was nominated for the award by the Coastal Community Foundation. “Over the years, we have seen what a profound impact the Darby family’s support has made upon a wide range of local community organizations,” said George Stevens of Coastal Community Foundation, “From MUSC Children’s Hospital to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, the Darby family’s interests are diverse and focused on improving quality of life, health, youth development, and housing.”

In addition to churches, schools, colleges and the arts, Coastal Community Foundation, and MUSC Children’ Hospital, the Darby family has helped to support Charleston County organizations such as East Cooper Community Outreach, The Children’s Museum, Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, Life Management Center, and the United Way.

“One of the many things our family members have in common is our love for the Charleston community. This is truly a great place to raise a family, build a business and make a great life,” said John Darby, CEO of The Beach Company, speaking on behalf of the Darby family. “It is our family’s goal and desire to continue to serve our wonderful community for many generations to come. This recognition is extremely humbling, and it is gratifying to be counted among the accomplished recipients of this award. It is a great honor.”

The Darby family members honored are Dr. Charles P. Darby, Jr. and Joyce Darby, Charles P. Darby III (Buddy) and Tammy Darby, W. Scott Parker and Anne Darby Parker, CDR Kenneth Haizlip and Beth Darby Haizlip, John Darby and Georgia Darby, Matthew Wolf and Joya Darby Wolf, and their children.
