Charleston’s West Broad Street Locale Expands with New Restaurants, Retail Offerings

The area surrounding Colonial Lake, located within downtown Charleston’s Harleston Village neighborhood, is currently experiencing a residential and retail renaissance, having recently welcomed new culinary, shopping and service offerings. At the forefront of the West Broad Street area is The Jasper, a 12-story mixed-use building offering luxury residences, amenities, retail and office space. The community anchors Broad Street’s west end as it continues to incorporate a unique blend of fresh experiences for new and existing residents. As a result, the area is seeing a wave of transformation, with additional openings and groundbreakings planned throughout 2024.   



Costa Restaurant and Bar, an elegant ode to the Mediterranean shores of Italy with an innovative approach to coastal Italian cuisine from Easton Porter, recently celebrated its grand opening on the ground floor of The Jasper. Costa is the second of Easton Porter Group’s concepts to join The Jasper, accompanying Alcove Market, an upscale café offering everything from coffee and juices to breakfast and lunch including a catering menu, which opened next door last year.



Retail providers within The Jasper include Baseline and Form fitness studios, Spa Azure luxury spa and Ashley Artisan Suites, a curated collection of locally owned boutiques. The Jasper also introduced a new retailer in 2024. Hutton & Home, which offers curated collections of original art and fine home furnishings, opened this spring in a 3,660-square-foot space and anchors The Jasper’s ground floor shopping experience.

There is still one ground floor retail/office unit available for lease with approximately 2,130 square feet. Located on Barre Street, between Costa* and Baseline, the suite is ideal for a business use that can provide an amenity for Jasper’s existing residential and commercial tenants. The Landlord is providing a tenant improvement allowance as the unit will be delivered in dark shell condition.


In addition to The Jasper’s rental residences, The Beach Company recently broke ground on The Charles in February 2024 at the corner of Broad and Barre Streets. The development will consist of 23 luxury townhomes and flats with gated garage parking, private terraces offering stunning views of the Ashley River and a public park at its doorstep. Residents of The Charles will enjoy The Jasper Athletic Club, offering a full array of amenities and services including a rooftop pool, commercial quality fitness center with a free-weight circuit facility, yoga and outdoor fitness areas on the Star Deck for individuals and group classes, along with locker rooms with showers and sauna. Adjacent to the Star Deck, The Jasper’s Resident Club offers gathering spaces and lounge areas with private wine lockers, a demonstration kitchen and catering prep space for private events.


The Jasper also features 75,000 square feet of AAA-office space to complement its retail and residential uses. Currently 100% leased, the office building boasts a diverse rolodex of tenants, but is most notably anchored by the headquarters for The Beach Company and Wells Fargo’s Charleston offices.  Positioned on more than four acres at the western gateway to Charleston’s historic district, the landmark project features stunning water views in every direction including the Atlantic Ocean, the Ashley and the Cooper rivers, the Charleston Harbor and the northeastern side of the historic peninsula.
