Huntsville’s Stovehouse District has emerged as a top regional retail and dining destination. Through thoughtful design and unwavering commitment, the district has undergone a major transformative redevelopment process in recent years, with many successful developments already completed and additional openings and groundbreakings planned throughout 2024 and beyond.
“The Stovehouse District represents a revitalized chapter in the ongoing narrative of Huntsville’s economic development and change,” says Jim McGuffey, deputy director of urban and economic development for the City of Huntsville. “This redevelopment not only preserves our rich industrial heritage but also fosters new business growth and innovation. By creating a vibrant mixed-use space, we are attracting diverse businesses, creating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”
The Foundry
The Foundry is a mixed-use development with one- and two-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom townhomes and over 9,900 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, and was developed on the property that was once a rundown hotel and dark retail bays. Amenities include an expansive sports pool and sundeck, small and large dog parks, multiple entertainment courtyards, pickle ball courts and a resort-style club room with 24-hour indoor and outdoor fitness and yoga rooms. Residents and neighborhood patrons will soon be able to dine at The Foundry’s new feature retail tenants, Taziki’s Mediterranean Café and The Flying Biscuit Café restaurants, both set to open in the coming months. Averaging 10 leases per week, The Foundry has experienced record leasing in Q2 2024. The property has enjoyed a successful summer and looks forward to welcoming its new residents.
Food City
The Stovehouse District will also soon enjoy convenient access to a Food City grocery store, which recently broke ground and is set to open in March 2025. This full-service store will complete the district’s master development and offer a variety of fresh produce, quality meats and a wide selection of everyday essentials. Additionally, the store will be connected to The Foundry via a 10-foot-wide pedestrian sidewalk along Governors Drive as well as an internal cross access connection, ensuring ease of access and enhancing the shopping experience for its customers and apartment residents.
“Introducing a Food City supermarket to Huntsville’s Stovehouse District further solidifies our goal of creating spaces that meet daily needs while enhancing community spirit and convenience for all,” says Stephen Spangler, executive vice president of real estate, store planning and development for Food City. “We are confident that this new store will serve as a central hub for top-quality products and easy access to essentials, addressing a vital need in the Stovehouse District.”
The Range
The Foundry’s sister property, The Range, is a 49,229-square-foot, Class-A commercial office building featuring ample parking, an open courtyard adjacent to the lobby and convenient access to nearby restaurants. Currently, The Range is almost fully leased, housing prestigious tenants including Merit Bank, Savant Wealth Management and Arrow Electronics, a global technology service powerhouse that recently relocated from Research Park. Only one second-level suite, spanning 10,315 square feet, remains available and can easily be demised into smaller offices to accommodate future businesses. Inspired by Huntsville’s aerospace history and booming technology industries, the three-story building’s modern steel and glass structure maximizes natural light to create open interiors and high-end finishes.

Stovehouse
Stovehouse, Huntsville’s premier destination for dining, shopping, drinks and leisure, is situated on the historic site of the former Martin Stamping and Stove Factory. In 2018, reconstruction began on the development with the goal of revitalizing the energy of the old factory and the district around it. Throughout the years, Stovehouse has become a central hub for Huntsville residents, offering a vibrant mix of experiences. Just this year, Stovehouse has expanded to welcome several exciting new tenants, including Cutes and Cakes Bakery, a bakery that combines sweet delights and savory bites with specialty cakes, cupcakes, classic bakery items and charcuterie, Seoul Good, a K-pop-inspired Korean fried chicken restaurant, BrickyDella Vintage, a vibrant shop featuring charming vintage clothing finds and one-of-a-kind gifts and Charlie Foster’s Espresso & Wine Bar, featuring handcrafted coffee offerings and wine for purchase. Additionally, Everleigh Elaine gift shop is set to open later this year.
“The transformation of the Stovehouse District from an underserved, dilapidated area to a vibrant community hub exemplifies our commitment to innovative development that honors the history of a location while providing modern amenities and opportunities for growth,” says JC Darby, Director of Operations at The Beach Company. “We are looking forward to seeing the continued positive impact on the Huntsville community with many new offerings on the horizon.”
