Today, The Beach Company and Swain and Associates announced they have broken ground on Center Point, an exciting new mixed-use community in Wilmington, N.C. Center Point will consist of 351 upscale rental residences, 100,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants, Class A office space and a hotel for both business and leisure travelers.
Plans for Center Point show a well-thought-out pedestrian-friendly community with attractions for residents, tenants, shoppers, diners and visitors. The community will feature open park space, entertainment lawns, ample parking, electric vehicle charging stations, a walking trail and 5G connectivity.
“Wilmington’s beautiful island beaches, walkable river district and distinctive culture are attracting a growing number of residents and employees looking to make this city their home,” says John Darby, president and CEO of the Beach Company. “Due to this recent influx of residents, the greater Wilmington area is in need of more first-class shopping, employment opportunities and residential accommodations, and Center Point will provide just that.”
Developer David Swain of Swain & Associates agreed, adding, “Today is an exciting day. In 2016 we put into motion a plan to turn the best piece of undeveloped property in Wilmington into a development that will be the new center of activity in our region. We are pleased to have teamed up with The Beach Company and are excited to finally bring Center Point to life. When complete, this project will exemplify the type of high-quality mixed-use project that the City of Wilmington has been striving for.”
“Center Point is the first project to be developed in the city limits using Wilmington’s new UMX zoning code, which favors a series of new, well-located urban centers consisting of elements that allow people to live, work and play in a first-class development,” says Natalie English, director of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. “The plans for Center Point fit this mold and we are thrilled to welcome this mixed-use project to our area in 2024.”
The first phase of Center Point consisting of the multifamily and retail is expected to be opened in mid-2024.
